Good news, Food news!

Me flipo.

Words can’t describe just how grateful I am for this week of good news, and as today is a “FRIYAY” I’d like to share the love, first up –

Madrid Best Blogs 2018

I am so thankful and honoured to be selected once again by Spotted by Locals Madrid as one of Madrid’s Best Blogs of 2018! This is the second year in a row for Kusina Madrid to be “spotted”- that deserves a vermut!

This is such heartening news because sometimes I think I’m just writing messages in bottles and throwing them to the sea – it’s quite wonderful to know that there are (non-bot) people out there actually reading my posts. Although I may not be a longtime blogger as some of my colleagues here who’ve been at it for many years, I do try to keep up and apply my old school journalistic skills from my newspaper years (researching, fact-checking and interviewing people) to put more substance in my content. So this feels like – a shout out to my favourite band Depeche Mode – Some Great Reward. 🙂

Refugee Food Festival 2018 goes global!

And for more good news – yesterday, UNHCR headquarters announced the 3rd Refugee Food Festival for 2018 – and this year it’s going global with new cities beyond Europe in the lineup!

New York, San Francisco and Capetown now join Madrid, Paris, Strasbourg, Marseilles, Lyon, Bordeaux, Lille, Athens, Amsterdam, Brussels and Bologna for a truly global, stellar event.

Again, I am just so honoured to be the project holder once again for the Madrid team this year, made up of the tireless volunteers of our passion project Chefugee. Eight restaurants in Madrid opening their kitchen doors to seven refugee and asylum seeker cooks from Syria, Sudan, Cameroon, Venezuela and Morocco. We will be announcing the Madrid lineup in a few days, and you can also follow us on Instagram or on our Facebook page for news.

Make Food Not War! And happy weekend y’all!
